Our Daughter Died

Hi, my name is Lauren and my daughter died.

While you may hear me say, “We lost our first child,” or “We have an angel baby,” the fact of the matter is, I have a daughter and she’s dead. Does that hit you like a ton of bricks? Me too. But it’s true. No matter how you try to sugarcoat it, I gave birth to a baby who was not alive. Outside the womb, she never moved, she never cried, she never took a breath. Yet she was 4lbs 9oz, had all her fingers and toes, and had the most perfect little button nose. Because so few of us saw her, held her, said goodbye to her physical body, it’s hard for others to grasp her existence. But she is a baby I grew, birthed, and held. She needed her diaper changed, to be dressed, and the cord, wrapped so tightly around her neck, cut.

Provocative? Sure. But our goal here is to de-stigmatize conversations about pregnancy and infant loss, and how can you do that without being brutally, unapologetically honest?

We hope that in sharing our grief journey, our struggles, and the life of our sweet baby girl, we create a space that allows parents of angels to speak freely of their children, all of them, and gives those in their support networks the confidence to ask questions and incorporate these angels into their lives.

We welcome parents of angels, their families & friends, and anyone interested in de-stigmatizing a loss that plagues 1 in 4 families. We hope you appreciate our candor as we, too, continue to navigate this lifelong journey.

Lauren
