What is the Beaumont Bereavement Program?

The Beaumont Children’s Perinatal, Infant & Pediatric Bereavement program supports families who suffer the loss of a child at Beaumont.  The program provides services to over 450 families a year across 7 different hospitals.  These services include providing staff that are professionally educated in supporting grieving families, cherished personalized mementos placed in a special memory box, one year follow up mailings and an annual memorial service honoring all of the children loved and lost.

As a Beaumont staff member, I have had the opportunity to care for families during the most difficult moments imaginable.  The death of a child, no matter the circumstance, is devastating beyond words. How do we, as healthcare providers, even begin to support families in such a circumstance?  We are mothers, fathers, and family members ourselves and feel humbled to be in this position.  We are there to provide grieving families with a caring heart, a compassionate atmosphere in which they can spend time with their children and guidance through the unthinkable.  I feel that it is an honor to be entrusted with the care of a grieving family and a privilege to ensure that their child’s life is honored and respected.
